Workshops against boredom on holiday: Active above and below ground in Ramsbeck

Bored during the holidays? The Sauerland Visitors' Mine is once again offering exciting workshops during the summer holidays this year. And always on Fridays, whatever the weather.

On Friday 18 July and Friday 8 August, children aged between 6 and 10 can explore the mining museum with an ore carrier. In the workshop "Carrying ore until your back cracks", they learn about the world of miners and build their own ore stretcher out of plywood. Afterwards, they go on a discovery tour with the rustic mine railway to the Sauerland visitor mine underground.

On Friday, 25 July, and Friday, 15 August, they will once again head straight into the visitor mine equipped with their own light. Participants will explore the dark world underground. Children aged 8 to 14 can explore different types of lighting used in mining in the past and try them out for themselves. Back upstairs in the museum, the children mould their own miners' lamps out of clay.

On Friday, 1 August, and Friday, 22 August, the focus will once again be on fossils. At the fossil workshop in Ramsbeck, children aged 7 and over can become young researchers themselves with microscopes and magnifying glasses. They examine real fossils. They then make small fossils out of plaster. The last part of the workshop takes them into the Sauerland underworld to track down real fossils.

Participation costs 14.50 euros including admission to the Sauerland visitor mine and a mine tour. The workshops run from 13:00 to 15:30. As the number of participants is limited on all dates, registration at the Sauerland Visitors' Mine is essential: by telephone on 02905/250 or by email at info@sauerlaender-besucherbergwerk.de.
