Together for the medical future: New "Hochsauerlandkreis rural doctor starter" funding programme launches with broad support
With the new funding programme "Landarztstarter Hochsauerlandkreis", the Hochsauerland district and the Westphalia-Lippe Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KVWL) are sending a strong signal for securing medical care in rural areas. The aim is to attract young doctors to work in the region - with attractive prospects and a supportive network of local authorities, the healthcare sector and regional businesses.
The business development organisations of the towns and municipalities in the Hochsauerland district play a central role in this. They are actively involved in publicising the programme and specifically involve local companies. "This joint commitment is an important contribution to presenting rural areas as a region worth living and working in," emphasises a spokesperson for the Hochsauerland district.
A particular focus is on the visibility of the programme: Prospective doctors are to be made aware of the programme via municipal websites, company networks and social media. Specially designed web and social media graphics and a poster have been developed for this purpose and are freely available to all participants. The official information pages are available at

A special highlight is the KVWL's Practice Exchange Day on 14 June 2025, which will take place in the Sauerland region for the first time - a strong sign of the region's growing importance in recruiting young talent.
"The Landarztstarter is more than just a support programme - it is an expression of a new way of working together. We not only want to offer young doctors career prospects, but also show that they are welcome and supported here - both professionally and personally," say the initiators.
