The municipality of Bestwig wants to support the work of the Bestwig Heimatbund

The municipality of Bestwig is expected to support the Bestwig Heritage Association with an annual grant of 1,000 euros from 2025. This was unanimously proposed by the members of the Bestwig citizens' committee. A final decision will then be made by the municipal council at its meeting on 25 June.

Background: In a letter to Mayor Ralf Péus, Heimatbund Chairwoman Adelheid Bamfaste had referred to the organisation's strained financial situation. Membership fees and other income did not allow the organisation to fulfil its statutory tasks to the required extent. Higher membership fees would deter new members, and a price increase for the popular yearbook could also reduce sales figures.

On behalf of the CDU parliamentary group, Gertrudis Dohle signalled her support for the Heimatbund's request. The members do an important job - mainly through voluntary work. The annual local history book with its contributions from the past and present is also of great importance to many citizens.

The committee members voted unanimously in favour of supporting the Heimatbund. Following a positive vote by the municipal council, the money could then flow.
