Special underground tour: Adventure on a discovery tour in the Bandberg

The Sauerland visitor mine is offering a very special underground tour on Saturday, 17 May: It goes into the Bandberg. An experienced mine guide will take participants on a discovery tour through impassable parts of the Sauerland visitor mine and provide amazing insights into the mining technology of the 1970s.

After a detailed tour of the visitor mine, the tour moves on to the dark and adventurous section of the tour, the Bandberg. Wearing only a head torch, visitors follow the path of the conveyor belt through the darkness to the surface and can discover traces of fire tests on conveyor belts from the time after the mine was closed. Depending on the weather, the group then walks back to the museum via the Willibald heap or takes the mine railway via the Eickhoff tunnel.

The route leads over damp, uneven areas, so weatherproof footwear and sturdy clothing are recommended. The temperature underground is a constant 8 to 10 degrees, so warm clothing should be worn. A basic level of physical fitness and the ability to walk on uneven paths in low light is a prerequisite for participation.

The special tour starts at 10 a.m. and lasts around two and a half hours. The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 10 people, so prior registration by telephone on 02905/250 or by e-mail to info@sauerlaender-besucherbergwerk.de is essential. The regular entrance fee for the Sauerland visitor mine applies.
