Photovoltaic system for the roof of the community centre in Velmede

A photovoltaic system has now been installed on the roof of the Bestwig community centre in Velmede.

Energy from the power of the sun: a photovoltaic system has now been installed on the roof of the Bestwig community centre in Velmede.

Last year, the council of the municipality of Bestwig decided to equip the roofs of municipal buildings with photovoltaic systems if this is economical over an operating period of 20 years. This also applies to the Oberm Kirchhof community centre in Velmede. "As the roof is south-facing, a very good yield can be expected here," says Dipl-Ing. Hubertus Kreis from the building and environmental department of the municipality of Bestwig. Around 40,000 euros have been earmarked in the budget for the roof-mounted photovoltaic system for 2025; according to calculations by the municipal administration, a significant return on investment can be achieved over the system's operating life.

There is also the aspect of climate protection: "Rooftop photovoltaic systems are a building block in making us less dependent on fossil fuels," says Mayor Ralf Péus.
