New fire protection requirements plan - and plenty of praise for the volunteer fire brigade

Bestwig. The name is unwieldy - but the content is all the more important for the people who live in the municipality of Bestwig: The fire protection requirements plan regulates all fire protection measures and facilities in the municipal area - and is therefore an important basis not only for the volunteer fire brigade, but also for politics and administration in the municipality of Bestwig. The municipal council has now unanimously approved the new fire protection requirements plan.

This is because the law on fire protection, assistance and disaster control (BHKG) in North Rhine-Westphalia stipulates that municipal fire protection requirement plans must be updated every five years. The result - in close co-operation with the management of the volunteer fire brigade - is a 60-page document that will form the basis for both fire protection and the work and further development of the volunteer fire brigade in the coming years.

The central statements of the fire protection requirements plan: The volunteer fire brigade of the municipality of Bestwig ensures the fulfilment of the municipality's statutory duties in accordance with the BHKG. The structure and organisation of the fire brigade with one fire engine and five fire brigade groups in the districts has proven itself and is to be continued in this form. The number of personnel is currently good - to ensure that it stays that way, recruiting members and working with young people are important tools. The municipality of Bestwig is well on the way to further developing its fire stations and procuring new vehicles. The possibilities of increased co-operation across municipal and city boundaries should be examined.

Important indicator: The specialist service "Rescue Service, Fire and Disaster Protection" of the Hochsauerland district as the responsible supervisory authority has assessed the entire fire brigade of the municipality of Bestwig annually as capable of ensuring adequate fire protection in the municipality of Bestwig. Statutory protection targets - for example the arrival times for various incidents - are achieved and in some cases even exceeded.

Both the fire protection requirements plan and the work of the volunteer fire brigade met with unanimous approval from the municipal council's parliamentary groups. Paul Theo Sommer, chairman of the SPD parliamentary group, particularly emphasised the Bestwig municipality's commitment to the construction of new, modern fire stations: the buildings in Andreasberg, Heringhausen and Nuttlar have already been completed, the fire station in Ramsbeck is under construction and the one in Ostwig is in the planning stage. All of this is "money well spent for the safety of our citizens." CDU parliamentary group leader Alexander Brockhoff emphasised that the municipality of Bestwig had invested a great deal in fire protection and the work of the volunteer fire brigade - "and we will continue to do so in the future."

The new fire protection requirements plan was finally approved unanimously. Further information about the volunteer fire brigade of the municipality of Bestwig is also available online at https://feuerwehr-bestwig.de.
