Holiday camp strengthens friendship: Youth fire brigades from Bestwig and Niederwiesa spend days together in Sauerland
Bestwig / Niederwiesa. At the end of the summer holidays in Saxony, 38 young people and supervisors from the youth fire brigades in the municipality of Bestwig, the partner municipality of Niederwiesa and the district of Lichtenwalde set off on an adventure together.
The destination of the holiday camp was the idyllically situated leisure facility in Bestwig-Andreasberg and the neighbouring Schützenhalle, which provided the ideal setting for a varied programme with its sports and games facilities. As soon as they arrived, the young people were delighted to make new friends. And it quickly became clear that this wasn't just about the trip and having fun, but above all about a lively community. "You immediately realise that the youth fire brigade unites us - whether we're from the Sauerland or Saxony," confirmed Paul from the Niederwiesa youth fire brigade.
One highlight was the visit to the Fort Fun amusement park, where they experienced roller coasters, white water rides and shows together. A visit to the Ramsbeck ore mine was also on the programme. Underground, the young people and chaperones learnt how hard the work in the mines used to be and were able to slip into the role of miners themselves. This mixture of thrills and exciting history made for many lasting impressions.
At the leisure centre in Andreasberg, the programme continued with sports and social activities: games, barbecues and evening campfires were just as much a part of the programme as simply having time to talk and laugh. The supervisors agreed: "It's precisely these moments that make a holiday camp so valuable - this is where the group grows together."
Of course, there was also plenty of time to talk about the work of the (youth) fire brigades. Whether playing games, eating together or in the evening in the accommodation in the Schützenhalle, you could tell that the young people were just having fun together. This created a real bond between the youth fire brigades from the Mittelsachen district and the Hochsauerland district that will last beyond the leisure time.
In the end, all participants agreed that the days spent together in Hochsauerland and the partner communities were a complete success. "It was great to meet new friends and experience so much together. Hopefully there will be a repeat soon!" summarised Anna from the Bestwig youth fire brigade. The holiday camp not only provided variety during the summer holidays, but also further strengthened the partnership between the youth fire brigades from Bestwig, Niederwiesa and the district of Lichtenwalde - a strong example of how youth work builds bridges and fosters community.
