City cycling 2025

Inflate the tyres, check the brakes and lights, oil the chain and perhaps charge the battery. Two-wheeler fans can prepare their bikes for a special event: The municipality of Bestwig is once again taking part in this year's "City Cycling" from 01 to 21 June 2025. All citizens can take part - and show that two wheels can be a real alternative to four.

This is the aim of the "Stadtradeln" programme, in which the Hochsauerland district and all of its twelve municipalities are taking part: To make it clear that the bicycle is a great means of transport for work, life and leisure. Specifically, the aim is to collect as many "cycle kilometres" as possible for the municipality of Bestwig during the three-week campaign period - for private, professional or sporting purposes. This works via the free city cycling app, which can be downloaded from the usual app stores. The distances travelled are tracked via GPS - alternatively, this can also be done online via the kilometre diary. The "old hands" among you will already be familiar with this.

Participants are invited to register in a group at www.stadtradeln.de/registrieren before starting. In the municipality of Bestwig, there is currently an open group called "offenes Team-Bestwig", in which all citizens can register. Of course, other groups can also be created.

There will also be special events in the municipality of Bestwig during the cycling campaign period. On Friday, 13 June 2025, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. , a cycling safety training course will take place on the Schützenplatz in Velmede in cooperation with the police. Among other things, a safe driving course will be set up. 

From 1 to 21 June 2025, interested cyclists in the municipality of Bestwig are also invited to take part in a picture search ride . During the three-week campaign period, picture excerpts will be published on www.bestwig.de, Instagram and Facebook for cyclists to cycle through. The traditional mayor's ride will also take place.

At the end of the campaign period, there will be awards for the cyclists who have covered the most kilometres by bike during the campaign period and the groups that have cycled the most kilometres per capita. The successful completion of the picture search ride will also be rewarded. So it's worth taking part.
