Citizens' sports park Am Bähnchen inaugurated with family day
Bestwig. With a colourful family day of sport, games and fun, the municipality of Bestwig, in cooperation with TuS Velmede-Bestwig, officially inaugurated the citizens' sports park Am Bähnchen in Bestwig after the completion of all the equipment courses and opened it for use by young and old.
Bestwig's mayor Ralf Péus thanked the volunteers from Tus Velmede-Bestwig, who have invested a total of 1096 volunteer hours in the project since construction work began in 2019. "This place is more than just a collection of modern sports facilities - it is a symbol of movement, encounters and community," the mayor emphasised in his speech.
Elmar Dünschede, 1st Chairman of Tus Velmede-Bestwig, also expressed his thanks for the good and committed cooperation between the municipal administration and the LEADER region "4 mitten im Sauerland", which supported the realisation of this multifunctional sports facility as part of its European funding programme. "Without the many volunteers, without the support of the local council and administration, our footballers would still be playing on a cinder pitch and our runners on an overgrown cinder track," said the club's chairman.
Voluntary commitment was also evident in the organisation of the family day. Over 20 helpers from various departments of the club and numerous cake donations ensured a successful afternoon. On behalf of TuS Velmede-Bestwig, Elmar Dünschede thanked the Velmede-Bestwig village community, the "Besser in Bestwig" advertising association and Sparkasse Mitten im Sauerland for their donations, labour and financial support. "The Am Bähnchen sports park should therefore not only be a place for sport, but also a place for people to meet and get together," concluded Mayor Péus in his speech, looking forward to a sporting future in a new and lively centre in the municipality of Bestwig.
