Bürgersportpark Bestwig: New facilities are aimed at people of all generations
New facilities for people of all generations in the Bestwig Citizens' Sports Park: on the right, the municipality of Bestwig is currently building a multi-purpose pitch and a boccia court; on the left, an equipment course for people "65plus" is being created under the direction of TuS Velmede-Bestwig.
The Bestwig Citizens' Sports Park continues to grow with additional facilities: A new multi-purpose pitch and a boccia court are currently being built at the facility on the Valme. "This will further expand the range of sports, leisure and exercise options," emphasises Mayor Ralf Péus.
The multi-purpose pitch and boccia court are being realised by the municipality of Bestwig as part of a project of the LEADER region "4 mitten im Sauerland". The facilities are located in the southern part of the facility between the artificial turf pitch and the running track. "Just like the running track, the multi-purpose pitch will have a tartan surface," explains Dipl.-Ing. Hubertus Kreis from the construction and environment department of the municipality of Bestwig. Various markings are intended to enable several ball sports to be played here - for example volleyball or basketball. Right next to it is the boccia course: this game, which originated in Italy, is about getting balls as close as possible to a smaller target ball.
Ralf Péus emphasises that the aim is to appeal to as many generations in the municipality of Bestwig as possible with the facilities on the community sports field: "The multi-purpose field may encourage younger people to exercise; older people can then also spend their leisure time on the boccia court." The total cost of the projects is around 100,000 euros, 65 percent of which will come from the European Union's LEADER programme. The work is expected to be completed by the end of May.
A new programme that TuS Velmede-Bestwig is implementing on the community sports ground is also aimed specifically at people aged 65 and over: This involves creating a course for all citizens of the municipality with five pieces of sports equipment that promote mobility and coordination in old age and are tailored to the special needs of older people. The five pieces of sports equipment specifically strengthen the motor skills of the hands, arms and legs and help to improve mobility and fitness.
At the same time, the new area of the community sports park, which is currently under construction, will also provide space for older people to socialise and enjoy leisure activities together, thus enriching the range of activities on offer in the twin village. To this end, a seating area will be created in the neighbourhood of the new facilities.
The "65plus" course is being realised with TuS Velmede-Bestwig's own funds as well as donations from, among others, the local mayor Hans-Georg Wysk, the "Besser in Bestwig" advertising association and the Velmede-Bestwig village community - and, of course, with a great deal of personal contribution from the TuS activists.
