Bestwig demographic report: "We find so many positive points here"

It is a comprehensive collection of facts and figures that is updated and further developed every year: The demographic report of the municipality of Bestwig. The 17th edition was now the subject of a meeting of the municipal development committee - and in view of the many interesting statements, committee member Joachim Hofius (CDU) argued in favour of not simply taking note of the 48-page paper: "Because this is about opportunities and possibilities."

And it is worth reading the demography report carefully, said committee member Hofius. For example, it is extremely positive that the population of the municipality of Bestwig is above the expert forecasts - the consequences of so-called "demographic change" could thus be "significantly mitigated" despite a fundamentally negative trend. It is also an important fact that - for people who want to live permanently in the municipality - the number of people moving in is higher than the number moving out.

And there are also many other facts with which the municipality of Bestwig can score points as a location for living, working and leisure. With the growing SMMP Health Academy and its facilities, there is not only a highly sought-after training centre, but the services also offer the people here a high therapeutic benefit. There are three excellently equipped primary schools in the municipality and "excellent accessibility" to secondary schools. Families will find many options for their "own four walls". And there is also a high-quality cultural programme as well as a distinctive range of sports and leisure activities - with nature to experience right on the doorstep.

Joachim Hofius summarised the demographic report as follows: "We find so many positive points for our municipality here" - which is why a marketing concept should be developed for the municipality of Bestwig. Suggested working title: "Why I want to live in Bestwig."

Support for this idea came from the SPD parliamentary group: "We should publicise everything that is possible here in the town," emphasised SPD parliamentary group leader Michael Menke. And committee chairman Markus Sommer (CDU) also stated: "We have a lot of good things here locally."
