B7n: Cities announce 28 April as the date for the start of the public presentation of all documents
Public participation as part of the line determination procedure, including the environmental impact assessment for the B7n, will start this month. From 8 April 2025, the imminent publication of all available documents will be announced in the official gazettes of the municipalities of Brilon, Olsberg and Bestwig and in a few days on the website of the Federal Highway Authority and the federal government's EIA portal.
The public consultation will start on Monday, 28 April 2025, from which date up to and including 27 May 2025 the documents will be published digitally on the website of the Federal Roads Authority and the federal EIA portal and will also be available in analogue form in the respective town halls so that the affected public can view them. Written objections can be submitted up to and including 27 June 2025.
The federal government confirms the planned route via the route determination process
The new construction of the B7n is part of the network concept to strengthen and open up the Hochsauerland region with a connection to the A445 near Wickede and the A44 and A33 near Bad Wünnenberg and has been approved by the German Bundestag in the requirements plan for federal trunk roads as a priority project. This gives the NRW road construction authority the right to plan the motorway.
The B7n is currently in the line identification process. This procedure confirms the planned route to the project sponsor, and thus Straßen.NRW, on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany. In addition to the road construction design and the traffic study, the documents required for this include the preparation of an environmental impact study (EIS) in order to identify areas with as few conflicts as possible. This is carried out in accordance with §§ 18 ff. UVPG (Environmental Impact Assessment Act) as well as all planning documents including drawings and explanations will be available online and in analogue form from 28 April.
B7n planned as a "2-1 cross-section" over around 12 kilometres
The project sponsor Straßen.NRW is planning the new construction of the B7n from the end of the A 46 motorway in Nuttlar to the B480 north-east of Brilon. It is basically designed as a so-called "2+1 cross-section". This means that two lanes will be available to road users alternately for safe overtaking. The length of the new motorway section is approx. 11-12 km. To the west of Brilon (RLG bus depot), it will be linked to the lower-lying B 7 "old" motorway via a connecting ramp. Further links to the subordinate transport network are planned at "Mühlenweg" and "Scharfenberger Straße".
Numerous route variants were developed as part of the preliminary planning; both variants developed by the branch of the NRW state road authority and other variants proposed by the public and politicians were considered. The preferred option is variant 1-2b-7-5/6, which is the best option from both an environmental and economic point of view.
