Attempted arson at the town hall: Bestwig municipality offers reward for information

Attempted arson at Bestwig town hall: On the night of Wednesday, 11 June, previously unknown perpetrators attempted to light a fire in the area of the main entrance - using wood shavings, cardboard and paper. As the "fireplace" was underneath a wooden ceiling, this fire could have had serious consequences, including a major fire. The municipality of Bestwig has filed criminal charges against persons unknown - and is offering a reward of 500 euros for information leading to the perpetrator or perpetrators.

If the fire underneath the canopy with its wooden ceiling had actually caught fire, this could have had unforeseeable consequences for the town hall - including a full-blown fire that could have affected large parts of the building. "That's why such an action is definitely not a 'silly boy's prank', but rather a fire hazard in the truest sense of the word," says Mayor Ralf Péus. For the local authority, such incidents are unacceptable - which is why it wants to support the investigation of this offence by offering a reward of 500 euros.

At the same time, the municipality of Bestwig is asking for information leading to the perpetrator or perpetrators. The police will accept any such information on Tel. 0291/90200 or in person at any police station.
